Every week I will add a word or term commonly used in music. This will teach those who cannot read sheet music something new and we can all share our knowledge.



Mordent

Music Terminology of the Week #17 41837666

-an ornament indicating that the note is to be played in a single rapid alternation with the note above or below
-similar to a trill
-upper modent indicated by a short squiggle
-lower mordent indicated by a short vertical line through it
-speed of mordent is varied by tempo
