Photoshop CS5 is good.
If you are looking for a free editor, Pixlr is just like photoshop really so I suggest you take a look at that site. x3

Photoshop is the best thing you can get. But it's expensive, so you can always just go with Gimp or Photofiltre, which are free. Graphics Program? 465488

Those cheaper prices are the cost of upgrading if you have the earlier version.
CS is around $500-$600. Elements is about $120-$150.

I used gimp myself.

It's a free program.

It certainly puts me at a bit of a disadvantage to those with photoshop, but I've got some shred of artistic talent to make up for it.

I highly recommend it, if you're not looking to spend money.

The same. Gimp and Photofiltre is about your best alternative. Although Pixelr is good, I think Gimp/Photofiltre is way better. Pixelr is good if you don't want to download a program. Lunapic is good for animated gifs, adding glitter to images, etc. Online-Image-Editor is good for that too.

I wouldn't recommend FotoFlexer, it's more like Picnik to me, I guess if Pixelr isn't working online this is alright too.

I don't recommend Pixelr. Less freedom for later manipulation.

It's not all about what program you have, either.

Maybe read up some tips on making good graphics.
Photoshop is great, but it's not going to make an artistic out of a monkey, if you catch my drift.

That's true, but it's a good online alternative, if you can't download anything. If you want something simple like transparency, or layer styles etc Pixelr is okay.

It's about the features and things you have. If you know how to use a graphic program, you could make some pretty nice graphics regardless if you have Photoshop or not.

Hence why I suggested she read up on it. ^^

For some of my nicer works, the first thing that a lot of people ask me is, "what program did you use?"

That isn't the right question. The question should be, "what process did you go through?"

I don't really get why Photoshop is revered as the pinnacle of great illustration programs. I mean, if I were an artist for an occupation, sure, I'd find it a necessity to have something nice like that. (Or nicer. There are fancier products out there.) But I do these things for fun, I don't need something terribly special.

I totally agree with you.

Photoshop is more for manipulating photos, but you could illustrate/vector graphics. Well, it'd be easier to do that on Illustrator, because of the tools, and it's made for that so there is some advantages, but that doesn't mean you can't do that on Photoshop either, just probably take you longer etc.

Yes that's so true guys. It pretty much does come done to whether or not you have good artistic abilities. If you are good at art it won't matter that much what program you use. I've downloaded Gimp and it's really good Graphics Program? 143839

And it's not just being a good artist, either.

When I first starting using Gimp - well, let's just say my digital ability couldn't match up to what I could do with a pencil and paper (and it still doesn't. Just moreso back then.) If you don't know what all the tools do, how to use them, you won't be as impressed with your results.

So knowing how to use the program correctly is a big factor.

Read up on some tutorials on how to use the programs. You'll be surprised on how great a free program can be.

Yeah now that I think about it, that's true too. I guess it's mostly based on your own individual creativity and ideas. Because there are no tutorials to teach you how to be creative and have amazing ideas, you know? Programs and editors are just things you use to enhance that creativity that you have.

Genuine creative is not taught, very true.

There are classes to teach people attractive designs and such, though, at least.

There actually are tutorials that teach you how to make a graphic or something on the program, I suggest you follow the tutorials, because you get use to using the program and gain "experience", know how to use the tools etc. That could also "inspire" you.
