Every week I will add a word or term commonly used in music. This will teach those who cannot read sheet music something new and we can all share our knowledge.



Marcato

Music Terminology of the Week #8 Music-marcato

-type of articulation
-puts together fortepiano or sforzando of the accented note with a note duration reduced to two-thirds of its written value
-in band, it is often signified with the carrot top symobol: ^
-also bowing technique for strong instruments
-more commonly used with wind instruments
