If nobody payed, there would be no site.
So being a member isn't really a bad thing. The site just needs more money to run.

Not really. It's not like the Disney corporation is short on funds -- it would cost them nothing to allow non-members to buy a few outfits and change their hair. It's not required, it's a sign of greed on their part.
