What is a genetic code?? I found out!

Hey...I emailed build a bearville and asked them what is a generic code and they were very kind to explain and email me back!!
Here is the email!

Hi there!

A furry friend made after October 2007 has an ID Number and a key code in
its Birth Certificate/Genetic Tag. These are labeled as such and will enable you to bring your furry friend online in Buildabearville. This new furry friend
will come with its own online animal adventure, exclusive virtual reward
and Cub Condo! A furry friend made before October 2007 will only have a
barcode with numbers above.

To bring your furry friend to life online in Build-A-Bearville, just go to
the virtual Build-A-Bear Workshop store at the Town Square. Click on the
Bear Builder associate and follow the instructions. You will be allowed
to choose a furry friend and select a name for it. After you have added
one or more furry friends to your "My Stuff", your furry friend will jump
into the cool virtual backpack you receive and you are ready to explore
the world and play all of the mini games together.

they must have meant generic code - typographical error.

Well, generic means normal, usual, average. Along those lines.
