Oh! so, you're saying that just because something has seeds, it doesn't make it a fruit? Right! Because if that was so, Sunflowers would be considered a fruit! LOL!

Ok... so tomatoes are considered a fruit based on the fact that it has seeds AND based on the fact that you can eat the leaves. Thanks, maddydecember5! Tomatoes-- Fruit or Vegetable? 465488

Ok... so maybe there are more rules on classifying a fruit, (other than its seeds).

I researched it... apparently, the leaves of the tomato plant is actually referred to as a type of flower. The actual tomato is the ovary of the flower, and the seeds in the tomato is referrred to as a type of nut.

So, the sunflower seeds of the sunflower, wouldn't make it a fruit... it would just make the sunflower a type of flower, and the sunflower seeds a type of nut. Tomatoes-- Fruit or Vegetable? 465488

LOL! Yes... this means that tomatoes are fruits! All fruits have seeds, but, to make it a fruit, it needs to be the ovary of a plant. That is why sunflowers are not considered fruit, even though it has seeds.
