Dear HL
I reached for the sun
In awe of its grandness
Majestic and bright
It promised no sadness
I fashioned these wings
Out of hope and illusion
That if I flew high enough
She would rescue me from seclusion
So dumb and naive
I dreamt of a heaven
Where I basked in the warmth
Of this life I imagined
But the higher I reached
The further she went
The closer I got
The more I was spent
And my wings how they flew
As if sand through my fingers
Melted wax feathers
Abandoned this dreamer
I plunged down to earth
I cried out in grief
I begged for her help
Even in the end I believed
Now I float - half alive
Tears mixed with the sea
A cruel lesson I learned
About what was not meant to be
So bewarned, dear reader
Fall not in my step
Don't reach for that sun
Else end up bereft.
